This is Valerie; she is 5 year old girl of Nigerian heritage
Valerie was diagnosed with CDG (Chronic Granulomatous Disorder) in April 2016
CDG is an inherited immunodeficiency disease which increases the body’s susceptibility to infections caused by certain bacteria and fungi.
If Valerie is to beat the disease, she will need a stem cell (bone marrow) transplant to save her life.
Although an initial search on the world-wide bone marrow registry has taken place, no matches have been found. Valerie’s siblings have also been tested to see if they are a match. Sadly, none of them are.
NOW VALERIE NEEDS THE HELP OF THE BLACK COMMUNITY, AROUND THE WORLD.
When an African or Caribbean person with a blood disorder desperately needs a lifesaving transplant, 80% will not find the match they need; due to there not being enough African & Caribbean people signed to the register.
As bone marrow matching is race specific, Valerie’s lifesaving match will need to come from a black donor.
